Compliance with UKHCA Training Standards
(United Kingdom Home Care Association)
This programme is compliant with the guidelines of the UKHCA and CQC within the parameters of treating people with respect and dignity. This programme enhances these guidelines: it demonstrates that satisfying communication between a mentally disabled person and a more mentally healthy visitor can be achieved. Dignity lies beyond the physical acts of privacy. Dignity is much more empowering when an encounter leaves people feeling good about themselves and not diminished by the other person’s superior knowledge of what is correct memory and what isn’t.
The UKHCA refers training providers to the Care Quality Commission’s guidance for quality of care. The CQC’s Regulation 10: Dignity and respect (pertaining to the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014: Regulation 10.1 says:
Service users must be treated with dignity and respect.
All communication with people using services must be respectful. This includes using or facilitating the most suitable means of communication and respecting a person’s right to engage or not to engage in communication.
